Hockey Trip
Zachary and I flew to Anchorage for the weekend for his first hockey tournament! We took an early flight out of Juneau that was full of hockey kids. After we arrived in Anchorage, we began our tour of restaurants! Juneau in winter doesn't have many dining options. While at IHOP, we saw one of Zach's teammates and his family, a trend that would continue everywhere we went in town.
Aside from eating, we did some much needed shopping and found new hockey gear and a great stick.
Many of the teammates were at the same hotel and the kids had fun in the pool.
Game 1, getting ready to hit the ice.
Juneau wins!
Game 2, still day 1. Juneau won again, but I don't have many pictures from this game.
Mady's told her teacher I was in Anchorage, and her teacher sent me a text telling me about Great Harvest Bread. She said they give samples of bread. Lucky for us, it was super close to the hotel so of course we went. These are the "samples" they gave us, after we had already tasted them all!
After samples, we went back to the rink to pick up Zach's custom tournament hoodie.
Game 3, day 2.
The game ended in a 1-1 tie.
Juneau won the tie-breaker based on goals and had the first seed for the play-off bracket.
Game 4, day 2. Quarterfinals
The kids from Fairbanks were a bit bigger.
Juneau wins!
Back to IHOP for more, more, MORE!
Game 5, day 3. Semi-finals
Zach is on the starting line!
Juneau fell short in the semi-finals, 2-1. That extra goal was a little trickler and a heartbreaker.
In the afternoon, a bunch of kids from the team met up at a trampoline park to burn off the last of their energy. A quick snack after the trampoline park (where we again ran into a teammate) and then to the airport (crazy with hockey kids from all over Alaska).
(new hockey bag and stick bag)
It was a whirlwind weekend and a great experience! Can't wait to do it again.
