Field trips in a new town are extra fun. I'm grateful I was able to join Mady's class on two field trips this month. First up was DiPac Salmon Hatchery . The salmon ladder had a few unintended users. After watching the interlopers/opportunists, we were able to tour the facility and saw the giant tanks full of salmon fry, the touch tanks, aquarium, and the hands on salmon. Next up was a trip to the Walter Soboloff Building and the Sealaska Heritage Institute. We were given a quick tour and then we heard stories and songs from the Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian Peoples.
Kaxdigoowu Heen Dei also known as the Brotherhood Bridge Trail. There are actually three paths along the way, the paved walking trail, a horse trail, and a hiking trail that winds around through the woods, but never too far from the main trail. The trail is nicely paved and mostly flat. It starts off through the meadow with a view of Mendenhall Glacier. Our friends joined us again this week, the 4 older boys are once again forging ahead. After the meadow the trail winds through the woods and over a river. We found this pretty little robin shell beside the trail.
Totem at the Juneau-Douglas City Museum. Fog obscuring the bridge. Whale Park. Random waterfalls appear on the mountain. The bridge when it isn't foggy.
